The Bramble

1 1/2oz Gin
3/4oz Lemon Juice
1/2oz Simple Syrup
3/4oz Creme de Mure (or Creme de Cassis, if Mure is not available)

Fill a rocks glass with Crushed ice
Pour Gin, Lemon Juice and Simple Syrup over the ice and stir
Drizzle the Creme de Mure over the top of the cocktail
Garnish with a Lemon wedge and 2 raspberries

This is one of the cocktails I have always found visually appealing, and have always wanted to make, yet simply it is never on my mind when I’m making cocktails. I finally decided to break my posting drought and bring you a rather popular cocktail.

The Bramble is a very simple cocktail that uses widely available ingredients, and takes very little time to prepare. In fact, its dead bloody simple.

I did not mix the Creme de Mure with the rest of the cocktail before I started drinking it, which resulted in the top of the cocktail tasting slightly tart and having strong (but very pleasant) flavours of the Martin Millers Gin that I used; As I approached the read:dreaded the bottom of the glass, the cocktail became quite sweet and fruity, there were still traces of the gin and lemon juice, however they were heavily subdued.

A cocktail for the warm Summer or Spring months.

Naked Pretzel

The Mash Bill:

3/4oz Vodka
1oz Melon Liqueur
1/2oz Creme de Cassis
2oz Pineapple Juice

The Work Order:

  1. Fill lowball glass with ice
  2. Pour all ingredients
  3. Stir
  4. Serve

My Thoughts:

The colour of the drink is not aesthetically pleasing by any means, it looks like dirty brown water with hints of green that float through it. Taste wise it is average, its fruity, but not fresh fruit, preserved fruit flavour.

The Mash Bill:

1 1/2oz gin
1oz creme de cassis
1 oz watermelon syrup (Click HERE for the Recipe)
Juice of 1/2 lime
Champagne

The Work Order:

  1. Fill shaker with Ice
  2. Pour all ingredients except Champagne
  3. Shake
  4. Strain
  5. Top with Champagne
  6. Garnish with Watermelon
  7. Serve

My Thoughts:

A very sweet, and slightly syrupy cocktail, the watermelon/berry flavour is dominating in this cocktail and it leaves very little gin taste.

Black Opal

The Mash Bill:

1/2oz Vodka
1/2oz Gin
1/2oz Rum
1/2oz Triple Sec
1/2oz Blackberry Liqueur (I used Blackcurrent Liqueur (creme de cassis))
1/2oz Blue Curacao
1 1/2oz Sweet And Sour Mix
1oz Lemonade

The Work Order:

  1. Fill Highball with Ice
  2. Pour all Ingredients, except Lemonade
  3. Stir
  4. Pour Lemonade
  5. Serve

My Thoughts:

A rather tasty cocktail, lots of sweet fruity flavours. You can taste the creme de Cassis and there is a faint Gin flavour, but its more than bareable. Overall it kind of tastes like grape.

Diablo

The Mash Bill:

1 1/2oz tequila
3/4oz crème de cassis
1/2oz lime juice
4oz ginger ale

The Work Order:

  1. Fill shaker with Ice
  2. Pour Tequila, Creme de Cassis and Lime Juice
  3. Shake
  4. Strain into Highball Glass
  5. Top With Ginger Ale
  6. Serve

My Thoughts:

Smells earthy, and slightly gingery, the Cassis and Lime don’t really come through in the aroma.

You get the full flavour of the tequila without the alcohol taste that would hit your tongue if you were drinking it on the rocks or neat, the ginger ale enhances the tequila taste. There is a slight blackcurrant flavouring to drink, but not as much as some of the other cocktails I have made.

Not a bad drink, probably not one that I would have again, but still ok.

Summer Fruit Sour

The Mash Bill:

1oz Gin
1/2oz Creme de Cassis
1/2oz Lime Juice
3-1/2oz Cranberry Juice
Ice

The Work Order:

  1. Fill Highball Glass with Ice
  2. Pour Gin, Cassis and Lime
  3. Top with Cranberry Juice
  4. Stir
  5. Serve

My Thoughts:

This is pretty good, you can still taste the gin, but the pineyness and floral flavours are mostly masked by the fruit juices and Creme de Cassis. The drink taste like ribena, with a hint of gin.
